Introduction The Washington Hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania was one of the hospitals to make the top 100 list. History The Washington Hospital history has proven to successfully providing some of the highest quality care in the southwestern Pennsylvania area since 1897, when it was just an old family farmhouse. It was not until after they officially opened later on down the road that the physicians were able to operate in an actual operating room, before that they utilized the space meant for classrooms until one was built.
Once they added an operation room, they also decided to add on a second floor along with a brick kitchen. In 1905, a new full story was added to the hospital which included 12 additional rooms and also another operation room upgraded the hospital. Washington Hospital began a fundraiser to raise money to relocate and upgrade the Washington Hospital. By 1925, over $60,000 was made from these fundraisers and the construction for the new hospital started. Construction finished by March 23, 1927 and was then opened for business.
In 1946, the Washington Hospital was up and operating with a three floor wing, 238 bed capability, and a three story nurses residence which includes 101 bedrooms, 8 lounges, 2 libraries, class rooms and a recreational room. The hospital added an “H” wing to the hospital in 2009 which included the Dr. E. Ronald and Constance Salvitti center for emergency and surgical services center of excellence and Ralph B. and Carol J. Andy critical care center. Cameron wellness center, women’s health/obstetrics and wound and skin healing center. In the late 1970’s, the hospital branched two other facilities; Neighbor Health Center located at 95 Leonard Ave. , Building 2, Suite 200, Washington, PA 15301 and Greenbrier Treatment Center located at 800 Manor Drive, Washington, PA 15301. The Neighbor Health Center offers a day surgery unit, women’s health center, family practice center and outpatient testing areas such as radiology, laboratory EKG and lithotripsy services.
The Greenbrier Treatment Center offers alcohol and drug treatment. Schools Offered The Washington Hospital offers three different school programs that students can graduate from: The Washington Hospital School of nursing health, The Washington Hospital School of radiologic technology and The Washington Hospital School of residency program. The Washington Hospital School of nursing health was founded in 1897. The school graduated its first class in 1900.
The school has successfully graduated over 4000 students to the nursing program since 1900. This is a two year and four month program that allows you to achieve 34 general education credits that go towards your nursing degree. A graduate can hold an entry level professional nursing position in an abundant amount of health care settings. The Washington Hospital School of radiologic technology is a 2 year program that begins in September of each year.
The program offers skilled courses including anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safely, radiation protection and basic patient care. 84 percent of all students who attempt the credentialed exam pass on the first attempt and 98 percent of graduates find a job within 6 months of graduation. The Washington Hospital School of residency program is a program available for a graduate of a medical school no more than 3 years prior to the enrollment date.
